Young and Competitive

Image
Jolila Barrientes may be the youngest of our ‘After School Baggers’, and probably the newest to the game of cornhole, but don't sleep on this adorable young lady. She has talent bigger than her home state of Texas and people are starting to notice her in the cornhole world! Jolila’s mom, Laura, talked about just how new she is to the game of cornhole. “Jolila started playing early this year, and when she started she didn’t really know anything about the game. Every tournament she played in was in the TCL (Texas Cornhole League). In fact, we didn’t even hear about the ACL until a few months ago.”  Jolila, who lives at home with her mom, dad (Joe), two older sisters (Joanna and Loralei), and her 18 year old brother Josh, actually picked up her first bag at her dad’s softball game.  “Someone brought boards and bags to the game, and there were a bunch of people just hanging out and throwing. From that point on, I was hooked, and now there are always bags and boards when our friends g

Pro Level Game Theory: Missed Block

Image
Here we go! More block game theory analysis by your local Cornhole Geek (patent pending) here at Cornhole Addicts!  Today we look at the missed block where a block attempt by your opponent lands in their own lane. All examples have our Pros on the left side of the board with a bag to follow their opponent's block. What would ACL Pros Isabella Suprenant, Kenzie Beach, Steven Bernacet, and Bret Guy do in these situations? Do you do something else? If so, let's see if they can convince you switch something up in your game.  How the pros handle the missed block Pretty much the same answer from all of them except Bella gives a counter block option we'll look at afterwards. I know for myself, I salivate when I see this and attempt a bully bag to knock their bag completely out of the way. But as you can read for yourselves, these pros would just ignore it and go right in. To them, it's more valuable to allow their opponent to risk the "2fer collect bag" and for them

Let's welcome Hunter Eveler to the Team Addicts Family.

Let's welcome Hunter Eveler to the Team Addicts Family. Hunter was my first non-pro sponsored player back in January 2020 making this his 3rd season with us. He is a beast on the boards and proved it this past weekend competing in a huge 100 team tournament with Pro Storm Hogg and finishing in 3rd. Watch out because he is coming for one of those Pro spots next season and will not take no for an answer!! #cornholeaddicts #teamaddicts #addictsfamily #feedyouraddiction https://bit.ly/3lFCyJF

Pro Level Game Theory: The Standard Block

Image
Welcome to our newest series called Pro Level Game Theory and first up, we are going to talk about the Standard Block. We asked four ACL Pros how they would typically respond to each of these block scenarios. Their (response) bag would be thrown from the left side. Below are their answers. (Spoiler: they're not all the same). Now let's break down why each player may have answered the way they did and really begin to ask ourselves the million dollar question: is there a correct way? One thing is clear from the gate: there is no consensus here. Cut around like Bella? Roll? Airmail? Block behind? Push through? For some time now, in the non-pro world, it has been the consensus to cover/pin/block behind a standard block (but apparently we can’t come to a consensus on what to call this move). Common cornhole wisdom dictates, “Hey, great block, allow me to place this bag behind it to negate any attempts from you to push it in, and let’s start the airmail party. May the best airmailer

Rising To The Challenge

Image
Like most of us, Brayden Rayhon’s cornhole addiction started in the backyard with some friends. After baseball games, Brayden, age 13, says he would go back to a buddy’s house, go swimming and throw bags. While throwing at his friends house, he really he started liking the game, and realized he was pretty good at it as well. “I started putting 2 out of 4 bags in the hole on a regular basis, and we were playing there pretty much every weekend. I started to wonder what I could do with better bags against better players.” Brayden's first blind draw This got Brayden into doing some research. He ended up asking for a set of Slide Rites for Christmas 2019, and Santa was more than happy to oblige! In his first blind draw, he ended up as a walker, but he didn’t let them deter. He took it as a challenge and ended up taking second place. He threw in a couple of tournaments with the Slide Rites, but it was at his first regional when he noticed that he might want to change to something else. A
